Bohag Bihu

Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu is the biggest spring festival held in the eastern part of the country. It is the most important festival in the state of Assam and marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. The festivities begin with the advent of spring in the mid of April every year. The nature is in its full bloom during the season and the people of Assam manifest the moments with dance, songs, food and delicacies unique to the tradition and culture of Assam.
Travelvista India provides a 6 to 8 days package to Northeast India during this season, which will include visits to traditional villages where one can relish the traditional dishes of Assam, enjoy the festivities in the open fields during the day and have a gala time with the night-long stage performances by renowned artists of the region. The short itinerary of the trip is provided below, which may be customized as per your requirements. Please note that this trip will only commence with minimum of 6 pax.
GUWAHAI-KAZIRANGA-MAJULI-SIBSAGAR-DIBRUGARH
Day 1- Arrival at Guwahati (O/N)
On arrival at the Guwahati airport, you will be received by our Guest Relationship Executive and escorted to your hotel. After checking in and freshening up, we will take you on a short tour of the city. The tour will culminate with a sunset river cruise on the mighty Brahmaputra. Watch the sun go down as you sip on a tall glass of juice or mocktail. In the late evening we will take you to the famous 'Bihutoli Bihu' (Concert Stage) of Guwahati city, which is the urban form of Bihu culminating out of the transition of the rural festival into the modernized urban life. There you can enjoy Bihu dance, solo & group concerts, standup comedy, etc. Take a break from the concert for an authentic traditional dinner near the concert grounds.
Day 2- Guwahati-Kaziranga (O/N)
Have an early traditional Jalpan (breakfast) and leave for the holy shrine of Kamakhya atop the Nilachal hills. After you have offered your prayers at the Kamakhya temple, we will take you to our next destination, Kaziranga National park, a world heritage site and home to the world-famous Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Go on an afternoon jeep safari and see the wild animals up and close. Enjoy a relaxing evening at the home stay or resort. Laze around a warm bonfire and enjoy the bihu dance with a traditional dinner. Stay overnight.
Day 3- Kaziranga-Majuli (O/N)
Rise and shine! The day starts early for you. Hop on the back of an elephant and go into the jungle of the national park to see the famous one-horned rhino and other animals up and close. Your next destination will be Majuli, the largest river island in the world. On the way stop at a museum, Sukapha Samannay Kshetra dedicated to the first king of the erstwhile Ahom Dynasty. The journey to Majuli involves a ride on a country ferry and crossing the mighty river Brahmaputra. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of some river dolphins. Overnight stay at a village homestay or eco-lodge at Majuli.
Day 4- Majuli (O/N)
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour of various Satras (monasteries), as well as a Mising tribal village in the island. In the village you can enjoy Mukoli bihu, Jeng Bihu, Missing bihu and Husori performed by young men and women. Return to your homestay/resort, sit around a warm bonfire and have your traditional dinner.
Day 5- Majuli-Sibsagar (O/N)
In the morning you will leave for the historical town of Sibsagar. Being the capital of the erstwhile Ahom Kingdom, Sibsagar is a town of historical importance and has a lot to offer to a person with interest in history. Check into your homestay/resort. After lunch visit some of the many historical monuments in the town including Talatal Ghar and Kareng Ghar. Overnight stay in hotel/resort.
Day 6- Sibsagar-Dibrugarh (O/N)
In the morning sit with local villagers at the homestay and see the ancient process of preparation of the traditional Peetha & Assamese Jalpan. After the Jalpan (traditional brakfast) drive through the lush green countryside to the riverside city of Dibrugarh. Check into your luxurious & beautiful heritage tea garden bungalow. Spend the day at your leisure. Enjoy a relaxing evening at the bungalow or visit a stage concert nearby. Laze around a warm bonfire and have a traditional dinner on the bungalow lawns and stay overnight.
Day 7- Dibrugarh-Airport departure
Check out of your hotel/tea bungalow after breakfast and head to the airport to catch your flight to your onward destination.

Two nights at Shillong and Cherrapunjee
Day 1- Shillong
Post Breakfast in Guwahati you will start your journey towards the ‘Scotland of the East’. On the way, drop in at the Umiam Lake, which lies surrounded by pine tree clad hills. After checking in and freshening up, we will take you on a local sightseeing and shopping spree in Shillong. Spend a relaxing evening at your hotel.
Day 2- Cherrapunjee
Post breakfast in Shillong you will drive on beautiful hilly roads to ‘Cherrapunjee’, which is known to be one of the wettest places on earth. Check into a luxurious resort or homestay at Cherrapunjee and explore the Nohkalikai waterfalls, Mawsmai caves, Seven Sisters falls, Thangkharang Park, Eco Park. Next day start your journey to Kaziranga National Park.
